The Ministry of Industry received 363 orders to build new ships in first 8 months of 2022, 15% more than the average in 2019 - 2021.
Previously there were only 473 units made during the 2019-2021 period. The largest proportion of ships built in units in the 2019-2021 period were of the Barge type with 274 units and 100 units of Tug said The Minister of Industry (Menperin), Mr. Agus Gumiwang.
"This increasing number shows that ship owners, both from ministries and institutions, BUMN, and the private sector, are increasingly trusting domestic shipyards to meet the needs of their fleet," according to him. He also adding the shipping industry has a strategic role in supporting the national economy along with its labor-intensive, capital-intensive, and technology-intensive characteristics.
